(1) What are the system requirements for TradeSeeker?
For best results, we recommend the following system requirements:
- Windows 95, 98, NT or 2000 operating system
- 40 MB of hard disk space
- 16 MB of RAM. Note: If you are running TradeSeeker in conjunction with a Real Tick III platform, 80 MB of RAM is suggested.
- An internet connection of 14.4 kbbs or faster
- 150 MHz Pentium processor or greater
(2) How do I start the TradeSeeker program?
- Press the windows "Start" button
- Go to "Programs"
- Go to "TradeSeeker Client"
- Click on "TradeSeeker Client" to start the program
Or simply right-click on the TradeSeeker icon from your windows desktop.
(3) How do I exit the TradeSeeker program?
Simply right click on the alert bar and select "Exit."
(4) How do I make changes to customize by TradeSeeker alerting package?
After logging into the TradeSeeker program, simply "right-click" on the TradeSeeker alert bar to display the pull-down menu containing all of the customization options. For more information on how to customize your TradeSeeker program, please see the Users Guide.
(5) Why do all of my alerts "pile up" in the corner of the screen?
The corner of the screen is where all of the unacknowledged alerts reside. Simply right click on the alert and select "Acknowledge Alert" to have the alert move out from the corner of the screen. You can also select "Acknowledge All" to spread out the entire "pile" of unacknowledged alerts across to the acknowledged side of the alert bar. An even easier way to acknowledge your alerts is to configure your TradeSeeker program to automatically acknowledge each alert when you click on it. To do this, you will need to right-click on the alert bar and choose "Preferences" from the pull-down menu and select the "Click" tab. Here you will be able to customize what actions are taken when you click on an alert. A check mark in each box tells you what will happen when you click on the alert. So, check the boxes that you are interested in. You can also configure different sets of actions to be taken when you "Shift Click" (i.e. hold down the shift key and then click on the alert), "Control Click" or "Alternate Click."
(6) I am not getting any alerts. What should I do?
Assuming the stock market is open, you may not have selected any strategies to generate alerts. To configure your desired strategies for alerts you will need to go to the "Preferences" section. Right click on the alert bar and choose "Preferences" from the pull-down menu. Select the "Strategies" tab. You will see a list of categories for the TradeSeeker strategies. Double click on a category name to see a sub-list of individual strategies available. Click on the names of the strategies that interest you. A check mark in the box indicates that you have selected that category to receive stock alerts. If you are unable to access a strategy that you want, you may need to change your subscriptions level. (7) How do I eliminate receiving alerts from the systems that don't interest me?
To remove undesired alerts, simply unclick the strategies that do not interest you. For more information on how to do this, see question 6, above. In addition, you can choose to be alerted only to opportunities meeting a certain minimum score by using the "filter" feature of the TradeSeeker program. When using the filter, you will not receive any alert with a score lower than the filter value selected. Choose a filter value of zero to receive ALL alerts for that system.
(8) How do I remove the alerts that I no longer want to see?
To remove an alert from the alert bar, simply right-click on the alert and select "Remove Alert." Similarly, you can select "Remove All" to remove all of the alerts on your alert bar. Another way to accomplish this is to configure one of your "Click" choices, such as "Control Click," to do nothing but remove an alert. This way you can quickly and efficiently 'clean up' your alert bar by using the "control click" function to easily remove alerts. For more information on how to do this, see question # 5.
(9) How do I adjust the width of the alert bar?
The width of the alert bar can be adjusted by the user to whatever size is preferred. Simply click down on the edge of the alert bar and drag it up or down to adjust the width of the bar. The new dimensions are automatically saved and will not need to be adjusted again.
(10) Can I fit more (less) alert buttons across my computer screen?
The TradeSeeker user can adjust the number of alert buttons that appear on your computer screen. To adjust this number, you must first go to the "Preferences" section of the program and choose the "General" tab. In the middle of this section you will see the words "Number of Alerts on Bar." You can change the number that appears in the box to a larger number to fit more on the screen, or to a smaller number to display fewer alerts on you computer screen. Typically, ten alerts per screen seems to work well. A trader using Windows NT with four monitors might configure his/her TradeSeeker program to have 40 alerts spread out across the four monitors. Note that the multiple monitors on a Windows 98 machine will not support TradeSeeker spread across multiple screens.
(11) My alert bar is full and old alerts are disappearing off the edge of the screen. How do I get them back?
Once your entire alarm bar is filled with alerts, the alerts will begin to page over to a second or higher page. To access these alerts, simply click on the triangle shaped 'next page' / 'previous page' arrows on the edge of the alert bar. Note that these triangular arrows are only visible when an adjoining page exits in that direction.
(12) How is the score calculated for each system?
The score is a quantitative attempt to measure how well each opportunity meets the criteria for being a perfect example for that strategy. For example, a new 52 week high opportunity will get a high score if there were many previous unsuccessful attempts to breakout that failed. In addition, the general market condition (TICK and TRIN) will affect the score for most of the alerts. Note that some alerts (such as block trades, etc.) are not scored at all and will simply show a default score of 50.
(13) What does it mean to place my alerting strategies into "Groups"?
If desired, you can arrange all of your alerting strategies into up to eleven different group. The alerts belonging to a common group will be displayed in different colors and will have different audible alarm sounds than alerts belonging to strategies of other groups. This feature is totally optional to use, although some traders find it useful to have their especially 'hot' strategies pop up in a different color and with a different sound for quick identification. You can group the alerts by color under the "Strategies" tab of the "Preferences" section. The alarm sounds can be adjusted under the "Sounds" tab.
(14) How does the "Sort Acknowledged Alerts" feature work on the "General" tab?
Once an alert is acknowledged, it joins the rest of the acknowledged alerts on the main section of the alert bar. After a while, the number of acknowledged alerts can grow to a very large number and can be difficult to manage. The sorting feature allows you to better manage these alerts by sorting then in order of Time, Grouping or Score. Experiment with which sorting method works best for you.
(15) How can I get my TradeSeeker alerts to link into my Real Tick III platform?
The linking capability is one of the most powerful features of TradeSeeker. This enables the trader to quickly and efficiently load the stock into his/her Real Tick III trading platform for immediate review and possible action. To set up the linking, pull up the “Preferences” screen and select the “Link” tab. Follow the instructions and click on the box (which will then disappear) and then click on the title bar of the Level II display (or chart)you wish to link to. This should successfully link the TradeSeeker alerts to your trading platform. Typically, traders will link to a Level II screen on RT3, which is subsequently linked by RT3 to one or more charts for a quick overview of the opportunity.
(16) I am having trouble linking the TradeSeeker program to my trading platform?
There are several possible causes for the linking not working. First, you must be using a Real Tick III platform to take advantage of this feature. Next, ensure that you have set up your links properly, according to question #14, above. If your linking still does not work, you may need to update your version of Real Tick III. Some of the very old versions of Real Tick III do not support the linking feature.
(17) Will my Real Tick III display slow down when I run TradeSeeker?
This should never happen. If you DO see this problem, it is likely that you have insufficient RAM to run TradeSeeker in addition to your other programs, such as Real Tick III. The TradeSeeker program uses 16 MB of RAM. Also some users have good results with 64 MB of RAM, but we recommend you have at least 80 MB of RAM to run both TradeSeeker and Real Tick III. More memory may be required if you are also running an extensive array of other applications.
(18) My TradeSeeker program didn't seem to install properly. I rebooted the machine as instructed and don't understand how to start the program.
The installation process requires a large number of system files to be present on your computer. If you are missing any of these files, or the files are outdated, the TradeSeeker installation process will update these files for you. The updated files can only take effect upon a reboot of your computer. Therefore, you will need to reboot AND then restart the installation by running the setup.exe file a second time. This is entirely normal. Don’t worry. The second time, you will have all of the proper files on your computer which will enable you to complete the installation process.
(19) I don't hear an audible sound when a new alert is generated.
The alarm sound is generally heard through your sound card to your computer’s speakers. However,if you don’t have a sound card or speakers, this will not work for you. As an alternative, go to the “Preferences” screen and select the “Sound” tab. At the top, click on the “Use System Beep” selection to enable activation of a system beep on your computer’s internal speaker to announce the incoming alert.
(20) How can I make the TradeSeeker character speak the alert?
Right click on the alert and select speak alert. A better way to use this feature, if desired, is to configure your “Click” selection to “Speak Alert” when you click on it. For more information on how to do this, see questions #4 and #5 above.
(21) How do I remove the TradeSeeker character from the screen?
The characters can be removed by double clicking on them. You can also permanently eliminate them by going to the “Character” tab of the “Preferences” screen and selecting “Do Not Use Character” from the pull-down menu.
